OWbeauty: THE ‘CRAZE’IN HIGHLIGHTING AND CONTOURING|| NIFFY SIGNATURE

by
Hello lovelies,Your Beauty Expert is here again..
Welcome to a new month.

It isn’t news anymore that every face gets highlighted and contoured regardless of their facial structure! (We’ll be tagging Highlighting & Contouring as H&C in this write-up)

Funny how we have 95% clients requesting to have the H&C effect, all in the name of wanting to have what’s ‘in vogue’. It’s not for everyone! Yea, it’s not for every face.

You can’t have a flat nose like ‘frying pan’ and by all means want H&C!

Makeup artists aren’t Surgeons that will re-mould that shape of yours… We’re only to enhance your God-given beauty!
It’s High time we take cognizance of the fact that highlighting is done to pop your best features where light reflects on ..while contouring is done to recede/hide your less attractive features so the highlighted parts could pop well!

Key things to consider before requesting/giving your client the H&C effect!

*KEY ONE – IDENTIFY YOUR FACIAL STRUCTURE :

Highlighting and Contouring is NOT applicable to every face, be mindful of that please…,  If you have a round face, contouring beneath your cheekbone Is a score! That’s because it’ll make it appear smaller.. But, if you have a narrow face, it could make it look even longer. Instead “shade along the top of the forehead and a bit on the chin. This technique is Superb as It softens angular features and creates a more rounded ‘effect’.

*KEY TWO – GET THE RIGHT PRODUCTS & TOOLS:

You only need few things! and It includes – a matte shading cream/powder to ”cacao it” (In Aunty Bimpe Onakoya’s Voice), a powder, an highlighter and using the right brushes to achieve the desired look.

*KEY THREE – CONSIDER YOUR SKIN TONE:

When Contouring, Anything that gets too conspicuous against your skin tone is a no-no (If you’re fair, try a contouring cream/powder that’s one shade darker than your skin tone. less is more!

* KEY FOUR – HIGHLIGHT STRATEGICALLY:

Do not ‘OVERDO’ it, highlighting is important when you have to contour because it brings the light back into your face.

*KEY FIVE – AVOID MUCH GLITTERY/SHINY EFFECT:

Please stay away from anything with noticeable sparkles which can look Chalky or just plain unnatural.  Makeup Artist Polly Osmond said something “highlighter should be almost the Colour of your skin with just a hint of shine”

Tips: – For fair skin: Try a glistering light pink.
-For Dark Skin: Try a shimmery golden brown because these formulas mimic your skin’s texture so it just looks more realistic & believable.
– Medium Dark Skin&Dark Skin Complexions need a warmer golden highlighter for a glow that looks natural.

Finally, BLEND all the way! You just have to blend, blend, blend. This is the most important thing to do! DON’T STOP BLENDING!!!

Even if you’ve gone overboard; blending with a sponge like the beauty blender can reign it in. Don’t end up with H&C that’ll make you look like you’ve got eczema or skin discolorations… endeavor to get it right and you’ll look superb in it.
